what is 2nd law of thermodynamics??

OpenStudy (abb0t):

states that the entropy (meausre of a systems thermal energy) of an isolated system never decreases, because isolated systems spontaneously evolve towards thermodynamic equilibrium (state of physical balance at it's maxiumum)

thnx....

Second Law of thermodynamics has 2 statements... Let me give it in brief...: 01. Clauseous statement: Heat can pass spontaneously from hot to cold.but the converse is true only if work is done. 02. Thomson's statement: The mechanical work can completely be converted into heat.but heat cant be completely converted into work without making other changes. Mathematically 2nd law may be expressed in terms of the entropy change as dS>=dq/T here>sign is for irreversible process(dS>dq/T) and =sign is for reversible process(dS=dq/T).
