OpenStudy (anonymous):

When a function has multiple local maximum/minimums, when you list the local max/mins, do you also include the absolute max/min?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

From what I understand, and I may be wrong, there's only one absolute maximum, but there could be many relative maximums. Same for minimums. The absolute max or min would be the highest or lowest point of the graph including the endpoints if it's within the interval. Relative maxes or mins would be where the derivative or slope is equaled to 0 and not necessarily the highest or lowest point.

if the absolute min/max is an end point then it cannot also be a local min/max. otherwise yes you would include them
