can someone help me out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x+6)(x-6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(a+b)(a-b) = a ^{2} - b^{2}\]

OpenStudy (aonz):

what do u wanna do? lol simplify?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk, maybe multiply it out? ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i want to simplify it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try the difference of squares formula in reverse. its the same as FOILing but it results in a shortcut

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i do that? im confused. i was absent for this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i wrote it earlier let a = x and b = 6 in the formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then how would i solve that? am i thinking to hard about this? haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if i did it the right way..i should have gotten x^2 -36??

OpenStudy (aonz):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you were trying to solve it ? there is no equation to solve. what did you mean solve it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk? im confused now...i guess I had to solve it it? in order to simplify it wouldnt I have to solve it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve it means finding a solution to an equation simplifying means rewriting an expression if there is no equals sign its just an expression and there is nothing to solve for

OpenStudy (anonymous):

were you given a value of x ? or was this expression equal to something ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope it was just (X+^6(x-6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok.. sorry idk what to solve for. hm.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry it was as I posted in the question. i didnt mean to put the ^6 its just 6. but hmmm then i guess i should just leave it as it maybe? confusing, i must say

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah usually they just say "simplify" if there is no equation to solve for anything.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you confirm my answer on another one? (-8a3b4)2 5(-8)^2(a)^2(b^4)^2 5(64)(a^2)(b^8) 320(a^6)(b^8)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Where did the 5 come from ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry that was the number im on. idrk how it got there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh if its not part of the question then.. 64(a^6)(b^8)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmmm i wonder how i got 320...thankyou!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well it looks like you multiplied your answer by the question # 5 o_o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahaha. gosh, that is what iget for staying up for 24+ hours :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow! get some rest!
