Write the equation of the line through the point (3, -2) that is.. a. parallel to the y-axis b. parallel to the x-axis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

something parallel to the y-axis is a vertical line. so what vertical line passes through (3, -2)? likewise, something parallel to the x-axis is completely horizontal. what line is horizontal and passes through (3, -2)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can it be (3,3)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How will I know what is the equation of the line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok parallel means that no matter WHERE you are. it has the same value for that axis at that point (more or less in this case)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok try drawing y =0, y = 1, y = 2, y = 3 what do you see? Next do x = 0, x= 1, x = 2... in this style you will have lines that are parallel. now if you have these on the same graph you should see ones that pass through the point ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I got it now. ^^, thanks.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help me.. I need to know how to be able to have an equation of the line...

below are some examples of parallel lines to the x axis |dw:1357557626800:dw|
