Help Meh? I Can't Tell The Differences Between the pictures that look acutally Alike.): First, review MITOSIS by labeling the PHASES of the cells in the onion root picture below. This part will earn extra credit of 3 points!

This isn't as bad as it seems - there are some differences between the cells which will tell you which stage the cells are in. First of all, there's the stage before the chromosomes condense, so you're looking for one nucleus without any obvious chromosomes (these are the things that look like Xs). This is interphase. In plants, there is a preprophase where the nucleus sits in the middle of the cell. You will notice a difference between at least two of the cells in the drawing. Next comes prophase, where the chromosomes condense and the nuclear envelope breaks down. Metaphase is where the condensed chromosomes line up along the middle of the cell. Anaphase is where they split due to the mitotic spindles and they move apart. In telophase the nuclear membranes form round the two nuclei and a cleavage furrow in the middle of the cell forms. I hope this allows you to figure out which cell is in which phase - I can check your answers if you like. Best wishes
