Inequalities.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Choose the correct description of the solution to the inequality -2x < 10. The inequality has a line under, so it is closed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we're going to subtract...10? from both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

brb

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Divide -2 from both sides... your first objective is to get x alone

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok back

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 and -5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mmm. no not quite. what is 10 divided by 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh my bad. i thought it was -10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup... do now it looks like this - x<5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

closed circle on -5 shading to the right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Almost. it would be to the left. Cause the sign points left. and anohter way to look at it is- its saying the number is less than 5, so it couldnt be shaded ot the right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh i see now. thanks for the help so far. i think i'm okay for the most part but the next question is a little more complex

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok... yeah no problem! I might see it if you post it on here..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve the inequality 4x - 5 < 2x + 11. x > 8 x > -8 x < 8 x < -8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So combine like terms... 4x - 5 < 2x + 11 +5 +5 4x < 2x + 16 -2x -2x 2x < 16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have to graph it, or juts figure out which one is the inequality in simplest form?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just figure out the inequality in simplest form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. Do you get what to do next?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x<8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good job...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problemo...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which of the following is not a way to represent the solution of the inequality 2x - 2 < 4? The inequality has a line under it, so it's closed?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it is closed... and you would add 2 to each side next..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 and 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where did the 6 come from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4+2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh oops lol i see it now...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

refresh my memory please lol. what do i do next?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then you get x alone, by dividing each side by 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 and 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait though. what would the answer be once we've simplified the numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

remember when you divide the number from the x, it doesnt leave a 1. its the same either way.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so in other words x=1x same thing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok. the answer would be x<3 cause 6 divided by 2 is 3...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

with a line under the inequality sign
