Which of the following energy forms is associated with an object due to its position? (1 point) potential energy positional energy total energy kinetic energy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which of the following energy forms is not involved in hitting a tennis ball? (1 point) kinetic energy chemical potential energy gravitational potential energy elastic potential energy

OpenStudy (shane_b):

Positional energy and total energy can be ruled out pretty easily. Now looking at: \[PE=mgh\] \[KE=\frac{1}{2}mv^2\] Which one has a position component?

OpenStudy (shane_b):

For the second one just consider each answer: 1) Hitting a tennis ball involves a change in KE since it's velocity will change. 2) It also involves gravitational PE because the ball's position will be influenced by gravity throughout its motion. 3) It involves elastic potential energy due to the deformation of the ball when it is struck. So what's left?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is positional energy? :-/

OpenStudy (shane_b):

As far as I can tell, gravitational positional energy is a non-physics term for gravitational potential energy. It's not a term I've ever used or seen.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im still not sure of the answer

OpenStudy (shane_b):

chemical potential energy

Thanx shane
