Does anyone want to help me with Intransitive and transitive I need it now pls
transitive verbs are action verbs that have an object to receive the action. A direct object can be found by asking yourself whom or what is receiving the action. ex : I rode the bicycle. Find the verb...rode. I rode what?...the bicycle (direct object) So rode is a transitive verb and bicycle is the direct object. Intransitive verbs are action verbs that do not have an object receiving the action. ex: I laughed (laughed being the intransitive verb) lets look at some sentences and decide if their transitive or intransitive... I moved the chair. ...I moved what ? the chair (direct object) moved is a transitive verb. The book fell. Does " fell " have a direct object. No. So this is a intransitive verb. I hit the ball. hit what ? the ball. Transitive verb with " ball " being the direct object. Tom laughed because it was funny. The verb is laughed. Laughed at whom or what ? No direct object. " because it was funny " is an adverb phrase. So, " laughed " is an intransitive verb. Remember, just because there are words after the verb, does not necessarily make it a transitive verb.
