1. 1. All roses are red. 2. I have a red flower. 3. I have a rose. Which of the following best describes this series of statements? inductive reasoning with valid inference in Point 1 deductive reasoning with a valid conclusion in Point 3 inductive reasoning with an invalid inference in Point 1 deductive reasoning with an invalid conclusion in Point 3
i think the second one is correct, is this true?
No :) Look at Point 3. It's an invalid conclusion...just because you have a red flower and all roses are red, doesn't mean you have a rose. In addition, deductive reasoning is where to go from a general observation ("all roses are red") and move to more specific observances ("I have a red flower").
Inductive reasoning basically works the opposite way. From very specific to very general.
i forgot one, the choices are inductive reasoning with valid inference in Point 1 deductive reasoning with a valid conclusion in Point 3 inductive reasoning with an invalid inference in Point 1 deductive reasoning with an invalid conclusion in Point 3 which one is correct?
The last one is correct. It's certainly deductive reasoning and the final conclusion isn't valid because other flowers could also be red.
thank you so much!! so " deductive reasoning with an invalid conclusion in Point 3" is the answer ? :)
Yes...and no problem :)
can u help me with another problem? i'll post now :)
Post it separately...not sure if I can answer it but we'll see. Have to go for a bit
