121= 25x+12/x+3

OpenStudy (aravindg):

multiply by x on both sides

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Multiply both sides by x to get \[121x = 25x^2+12+3x\] Now solve by your favorite method.

OpenStudy (aravindg):

aha ! a quadratic ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry I'm so confused I keep getting really weird answers

OpenStudy (aravindg):

please show ur workking

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I subtracted 121x to get 25x^2+12-118x, then I did the quadratic formula and got -26.229

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

They are going to be "weird" answers (in other words, more like real-life answers!) but not the weird answer you got :-)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

\[25x^2-121x+3x+12=0\] \[25x^2-118x+12=0\] a=25, b=-118, c= 12 \[x=\frac{-(-118)\pm\sqrt{(-118)^2-4(25)(12)}}{2(25)}=\frac{118\pm{\sqrt{12724}}}{50}\] and that can have a 4 pulled out of the radical to make \[\frac{118\pm 2\sqrt{3181}}{50}=\frac{59\pm\sqrt{3181}}{25}\]

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

x=0.104,x=4.62 (both approximate)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks so much!! I must have been putting the numbers in wrong or something. :)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Negative numbers are the devil's handiwork, easy to make mistakes :-)
