I'm at a loss here, I cannot get my brain to function this evening, help please. Do not give me the answer but some help. Here is what I have so far: $9500 is invested, part of it at 11% and part of it at 6%. For a certain year the total yield is $865.00. How much was invested at each rate? x + y = 9500 .11x + .06y = 865

that should work but it would be easier to write the second equation as \[11x+6y=86500\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or even easier still would be to use one variable instead of two and go right to \[11x+6(9500-x)=86500\]

Ahh, I think I see where my brain freeze was hitting me I was looking at the equ. the wrong way. Thanks
