4x^7-8x^4-6x^3/2x^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 4x ^{7} -8x ^{4}-6x ^{3}}{ 2x ^{3} }\]

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

Hint: The common factor is 2x^3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how if its being divided by that ??

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

Firstly factorize the numerator by 2x^3 first, then simplify and continue simplifying.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which one ? and what would ido to the power ?

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

Remember that x^(a+b) = x^a * x^b. (Have you learnt how to factorize yet?)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

iguess not . i'm confused .

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

Have a look at this course: http://www.purplemath.com/modules/simpfact.htm This site should help you with the skills you need to simplify this expression.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

\[\frac{4x^7-8x^4-6x^3}{2x^3} = \frac{4x^7}{2x^3} -\frac{8x^4}{2x^3} - \frac{6x^3}{2x^3}\] Now you can cancel common factors from top and bottom of each fraction to simplify. Remember that \[\frac{x^a}{x^b} = x^{a-b}\]
