What are the intercepts of the equation -3x + 4y = 12?

OpenStudy (aravindg):

x intercept is got when you put y=0

OpenStudy (hba):

For x-intercept Set y=0 and solve For y-intercept Set x=0 and solve

OpenStudy (aravindg):

y intercept is got when you x=0

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Because this equation is in so-called standard form (Ax + By = C, A and B both non-zero) the x-intercept and y-intercept can be quickly picked out as (C/A, 0) and (0, C/B). Plot those two points, slap down your ruler and draw a line through them, and your graph is done in seconds. It's good to understand that x-intercept = point where y=0 and y-intercept = point where x=0, of course, but once you do, take advantage of what standard form gives you!
