5y = 5y is an example of which algebraic property?

pooja195 (pooja195):

5y=5y is an example of multiplication property. If you write this expression as 5*y=y*5, it would be commutative property.

thxx :)

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

It is the reflexive property. Something is equal to itself. It's usually stated as a = a

oh woww thxx

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

If you start with y = y and the next step you state 5y = 5y, then I would say it's the multiplication property of equality since you multiplied both sides of y = y by 5 to arrive at 5y = 5y. In this case, all we are given is 5y = 5y. I never saw a previous statement in which something was multiplied to arrive at 5y = 5y. 5y = 5y is simply a statement that something equals iteself, so I say it's the reflexive property of equality.
