For a polynomial, standard form just refers to the order of the terms. Look for the term with the highest degree. That one goes first. In your first equation, it would be the \[10xy^{4}\]term since the y has degree 4. Then the term with the second highest degree goes next, and so on. For terms that have more than one variable in them, such as \[-8x^{2}y^{2}\]the degree of the term is the highest degree of any of the variables. So\[4x^{4}y^{2}\]has degree 2, but\[2x^{2}y^{2}\]has degree 2.
