If you are finding the line perpendicular to x + 3y = 5, what is the slope of the perpendicular line? A. -3/5 B. 1/3 C. 3 D. -3

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

If you multiply the slopes of two perpendicular lines, the product is -1. What is the slope of the existing line? Rearrange the equation into slope-intercept form: y = mx + b where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept. Then the slope of the perpendicular line will be -1/m.
