For each of those options,
we need to know how to conjugate TENER into the correct tense.

For example,
in order to say "you had,"
we would need to conjugate TENER into the PRETERITE tense.

"Preterite" means "past."

Now, first I gotta tell you that TENER is an irregular verb.

It conjugates differently than normal verbs.
TENER doesn't follow the same conjugation rules.

I'm going to focus on specifically showing you how to conjugate TENER, into all of these tenses.

We can start with the PRETERITE.

Again, PRETERITE means PAST.

Here's how we conjugate TENER into the PRETERITE:

(Yo) Tuve

(Tú) Tuviste

(Él/Ella/Usted) Tuvo

(Nosotros) Tuvimos

(Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes) Tuvieron


Let me show you an example:

"Yo TUVO una manzana."
"I HAD an apple."

Letter B.

The IMPERFECT is another type of past tense, in Spanish.

But the IMPERFECT is used,
when we're talking about a past action that was CONSISTENT, and ON GOING.
An action that happened on a REGULAR BASIS.

For example:

When I was little, I HAD many friends.
"Cuando yo era niño, yo tenía muchos amigos."


Here, let me show you how to conjugate TENER into the IMPERFECT.

(Yo) Tenía

(Tu) tenías

(El/Ella/Usted) Tenía

(Nosotros) Teníamos

(Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes) Tenían


All of these words are in IMPERFECT.
They all mean HAD.

"Cuando yo era niño, yo tenía muchos amigos."
When I was little, I HAD many friends."

I used the IMPERFECT,
because the fact that I had friends was an ON GOING thing.
I had friends, over an EXTENDED PERIOD of time.

It WASN'T just one moment in time,

you see?

So, let's look at letter B, in your matching.

We're looking for the imperfect.
