First thing is that you must get rid of one of the variables.  you do this by looking at the 2 equations to see which one is easier to cancel.

so look at y terms - what can you multiply the 1st equation to cancel out y terms

We have to eliminate y.

So What would you be multiplying both the equation with so then you can add or subtract to eliminate y and get x.

3x - 4y = -8 ................(2)
If you multiply both sides of equation (1) by 3, and you multiply both sides of equation (2) by 3 then the coefficient of x will be 6 in both the resulting equations. Then we can take the next step to eliminate x. Can you do the first step?
