1. What is the difference between Darwin's theory of evolution and Lamarck's theory of evolution?
Darwin's theory of evolution is that traits are passed on through natural selection. If one trait is more beneficial to an organism than another trait, then the animal with the beneficial trait is more likely to survive and pass on the trait to its offspring. (While the organism with the useless trait dies...) Lamarck's theory of evolution is acquired traits or traits through use and disuse. So if a giraffe keeps stretching its neck, then it will develop a long neck, and when it has offspring it will pass the trait for long necks on. Suppose a giraffe has a trait for a tail useful in swinging from trees, according to Lamarck, the giraffe will lose that trait over its lifespan as a result of disuse and not pass on that trait to its offspring.
Thanks alot! I think I got Malthus confused with Lamark.
Np, have any clue about mendelian crosses?
