but i really do need help on this one.
have you learned solving quadratic equations?
\[x+14=x^2+24x+144 \] subtract x from both sides, then subtract 14 from both sides \[0=x^2+24x+144 - x - 14\]\[0 = x^2+23x+130\] Do you know how to factor equations? Find two numbers that multiply to equal 30 and add to make 23
multiply to equal 130, sorry.
10x13 = 130 and 10+13 = 23
You can find solutions from here: (x+13)(x+10) = 0 look familiar...?
@AriPotta what's the topic you are studying now? exponents? to solve this problem, you should now how to solve quadratic equation..
You don't need the quadratic eqn though, you can factor it
"should i just substitute each choice into the equation?" you can do this, but if it wasn't a multiple choice question, you obviously wouldn't have that option.
If you've done radicals, then it seems like you'd have learned how to factor equations (not using the quadratic formula)
Well that's all you need to know to factor something like x^2 + 23x + 130... find two numbers that multiply to make 130 and add to make 23. eg x^2 + 11x + 10 two numbers that multiply to make 10 and add to make 11... 1x10 = 10 and 1+10 = 11. So x^2 + 11x + 10 = (x+10)(x+1)
