You don't need the quadratic eqn though, you can factor it

"should i just substitute each choice into the equation?" you can do this, but if it wasn't a multiple choice question, you obviously wouldn't have that option.

If you've done radicals, then it seems like you'd have learned how to factor equations (not using the quadratic formula)

Well that's all you need to know to factor something like x^2 + 23x + 130... find two numbers that multiply to make 130 and add to make 23. eg x^2 + 11x + 10 two numbers that multiply to make 10 and add to make 11... 1x10 = 10 and 1+10 = 11. So x^2 + 11x + 10 = (x+10)(x+1)
