After graphing this: 30+x <= 6y (is less than/equal to) ...why would we shade the region above the line instead of below?

Pick a point in the region above the line. (0, 10) is such a point. Plug it into the inequality. Is it true? If so, that point is in the region to be shaded.

all the numbers above the line. are all possible x and y values that agree with the equation. all below do not satisfy the equation. as whpalmer stated

30+0 <= 6*10, so the inequality holds true, and that point is in the region to be shaded.

When doing inequality problems, I make them equalities to find the line(s) between the regions, sketch the line(s), then pick test points that are easy to evaluate. Something with a 0 as x or y is usually a bit easier, for example.
