The rabbit population in a forest area grows at the rate of 7% monthly. If there are 180 rabbits in September, find how many rabbits (rounded to the nearest whole number) should be expected by next September. Use y=180(2.7)^0.07t A. 402 B. 408 C. 428 D. 415

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, your time is a whole year right? so 12 months. Plug 12 in for t, and evaluate.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

he answer is too big

OpenStudy (anonymous):

too big?? so what..that's the question. Solve it..and BTW the answer isn't too big-> look at the answer choices. Are they too big?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 1125.754351 when i plugged 12 in as t

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no no. you did it wrong. Solve it in parts. First do 0.07x12. let it be p. then (2.7)^p. let it be q. then 180xq -> this will be the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is the equation btw: \[y= 180(2.7)^{.07t}\] So first find this part: \[2.7^{0.07*t}\] Then multiply that by 180.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I hope you WILL get it right now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks i am going to try to solve it now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is 415 right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup, you got it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

formula is not quite right i think it should be \[180(1.07)^t\] where \(t\) is time in months

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in which case the answer is 405

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in fact, i am sure the formula is wrong, to increase a number by 7% you multiply it by \(1.07\) so to increase it by 7% 12 times in a row you multiply it by \(1.07^{12}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am wondering where this question came from

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you replace \(t\) by \(12\) in the formula written you will get 415 rounded, but that is the wrong answer to the question being asked, because that is the wrong formula to use was this problem in a book? for a web class? on a worksheet? i would love to see it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It was from an online book i copied and pasted it exactly how it was wrote. Didn't take any thing out or add any thing in.
