A truck driver travels at 58 miles per hour. The truck tires have a diameter of 26 inches. What is the angular velocity of the wheels in revolutions per minute (rpm)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First convert miles to feet: 85.1 ft/s ~ 85ft/s Next one revolution of the tire is equal to: 26 inches*pi (circumference) = 2.167pi ft Then: 85ft/s divided by 2.167pi ft = 39.2pi rev/sec 1 rev = 2pi raidans So then 2pi*39.2pi = 78.4rad/sec So the angular velocity is 78.4rad/sec is ang vel.

Thank you c:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have a question would I multiply 78.4 rad/sec by 60 to get how many revolutions are in one minute?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the answer would be 4704 rpm? is that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okai, it just seemed like to high of a number I was worried it was wrong, thanks c:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

NO problem.
