can anyone explain to me whether this graph represents a linear graph? thank you!
is it because it lacks a vertical intercept?
a linear graph is a LINEar graph , if it looks like a line then it is linear. but that is not the case here
its not a linear graph , a linear graph is always represented by a straight line
what if its a "v" shape line?
then it depends on domain you take
can't a simple graph tell you if it is or not?
i would say it is composed of 2 linear graphs intersecting at a point
you could also say it is an absolute value graph
thanks!
it is not absolute value graph @jtvatsim
why not?
absolute value graph is as shown : |dw:1360461297476:dw|
hey, im sorry the question is about linear functions
right , but choose this functions: \[-|x-2|+4\]
would it be a linear function?
oh ok i see :)
yep its linear
the original line?
in the original question?
The question of whether an absolute value function is linear is debated, but it looks (from a quick google search) that it is NOT considered to be a linear function since the entire graph cannot be written as y = mx + b.
I would requote "then it depends on domain you take" "i would say it is composed of 2 linear graphs intersecting at a point"
thats the rule right? the value of b has some vertical intercept and there is change in f(x)
yep and we should be able to represent it using a single equation
@AravindG I would agree with that :)
stand down AravindG, jtvatsim beat you fair and square.dont have to be a nerd about it.
WTH ?
This is not some competition and we are people offering you help show some respect thanks
