Suppose an isosceles triangle has its two equal sides given by 4x - 10.7 2x + 6.3 and its unequal side by 5x + 2. What is the length of its unequal side?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

an isosceles triangle has 2 sides equal in length... if the sides are equal then 4x - 10.7 = 2x + 6.3 solve for x then you can find the length of the 3rd side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got x=8.5.... but how do I solve for the third side ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@campbell_st

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

yep... that looks about right... now substitute that into 5x + 2...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

44.5?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

thats correct... well done

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks :)
