The Magna Carta is one of the most important documents. It guaranteed the people certain rights, and bound the king to certain laws. Many of the laws in the Magna Cart are not used today and don't apply to the current system of democracy. However, the act of citizens being able to guarantee their own rights was a major step in forming modern democracies. http://www.lifeslittlemysteries.com/3013-what-is-the-significance-of-the-magna-carta.html Feudal Europe and Feudal Japan : differences : (1) Japanese feudalism did not have a true pyramid from which the monarch presided over a hierarchy of less important nobles. The local aristocrats had more power in Japan then they did in France, Britain, or any other European country. (2) The lower nobility in Japan, the samurai, swore an oath to their local lords, the local lords did not give the samurai any land of their own. While European nobility received land in exchange for their military service. similarities : (1) They were both hereditary caste systems. In both areas, those who were born peasants had no chance of becoming anything other then peasants. Furthermore, they had no hope of their children would be anything other then peasants. (2) Both cultures provided a warrior class intended to protect the other social classes from danger. This level of society was made up of knights in Europe and shoguns in Japan.
