Could anyone help me with this, im having a little trouble understanding these types of problems. A tank is is half full of oil that has a density of 900 kg/m3. Find the work W required to pump the oil out of the spout. (Use 9.8 m/s2 for g. Assume r = 15 m and h = 5 m.) the tank is spherical, heres a picture: http://www.webassign.net/scalcet7/6-4-022-alt.gif
I don't know if I can help with the whole thing, but I know where it would be a good place to start: The volume of a sphere is: \[V=\frac{4}{3}\pi r^3\] Then you know the size of the tank in \[meters^3\] You then know that the tank is half full of oil at 900kg/m^3. Divide the Volume of the tank by 2, then multiply by 900 to get the volume of oil sitting in the tank.
sorry, not volume: mass of oil in the tank.
solution in the image luck.!
