we know that dot product of two vectors is scalar. but dot product can be positive or 0 or negative. isn't this sign shows direction?
The sign indicates the size of the angle the two vectors formed. I believe positive means the angle between the two vectors is 0 to 90, and negative is 90 to 180.
the right answer is that the dot product giving a scalar quantity which can be positive 0 or negative but is only a value so our answer has no direction to be defined by the + or - sign. but if you take a cross product of two vectors then it'll be a resultant vector, in which case the sign represents the direction.
Dot product means that we r multiplying the projected length of one vector along the other vector to the other vector. Positive or negative sign indicates that the projected length of the vector along the other vector and the other vector are in the same direction or in opposite direction. if 0 means that there is nor projection of one vector along the other vector....
Exactly Ahmad_Shadab, which is why the angle formed by the vectors is acute when the dot product is positive, ie., the projections overlap.
