Be atomic number is 4. which means the valence shells are filled like K=2 L=2. now L can have 8 electrons , so the stable configuration will be K=2 L=0 so it loses 2 electrons so its Be 2+. cations are +ve and anions are -ve , so Be 2+ is a cation. Understood ? :)
