Osmosis occurs when there is a different concentration of solute molecules on each side of the membrane. The drawing below shows a beaker containing a 30% salt solution. A plastic bag containing a 10% salt solution is hanging down into the solution in the beaker. What will happen to the bag after about 20 minutes?

Water will leave the plastic bag and enter the beaker via osmosis. This will do two things: 1. The volume of the solvent in the beaker (water) will increase, causing the percentage of the salt solution in it to decrease. 2. The volume of the solvent in the plastic bag (water again) will decrease, causing the percentage of the salt solution to increase. I'm not sure how to calculate the exact amounts with the given information, but that's generally what would happen.
