if a basketball player shoots three free throws, describe the SAMPLE SPACE of possible outcomes using S for a made free throw and F for a missed free throw...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are 8 possibilities all together

OpenStudy (anonymous):

two choices for each attempt, so \(2^3=8\) total for all three attempts you can list them as ordered triples like (s, s, s) (s, s, f) (s, f, s) (f, s, s) etc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but can i have repeted options? like ssf and fss?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*repeated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is what it means for a complete sample space, ALL possible outcomes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

those aren't actually repeats, as getting a success on the first two and missing the last, is different then missing the first and getting success on the second two the probabilities of each of them are the same, and each contains two successes and one failure, but they are different outcomes.
