y+2≤6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just subtract 2 from both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would 2's cancel?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. so youd have y <= 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i know what to subtract from which side using which number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so for 3x-2≤4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what you are trying to do is get y by itself, on one side of the inequality. the only way to do that is to get rid of the 2 thats on the side with the y. to get rid of a positive number. Just subtract that number from both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would i do this one if it has 3 #'s 3x-2≤4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. so fisrt try to get the x and what ever number its multiplied by on one side. Like this 3x <= 6. I got that by adding 2 to both sides. Then to get 3 by itself, divide both sides by 3. 3x/3 <= 6/3 so x<=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that should be to get x by itself not 3 by itself ( on the next to last line ) srry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that make sense
