What happens to the carbon atoms from carbon dioxide molecules that enter the calvin cycle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The carbon dioxide reacts with a 5-C compound (which is ribulose diphosphate) that enters the cycle and forms an unstable 6-C compound which later on breaks down into 2 3-C compounds called phosphoglycerates. The O2 is released as a bi-product of the reaction.
