Ernest Rutherford help! 2.Defend his work on the atom and its contribution to the modern atomic model. 3.Point out which contributions are present in the modern atomic model and which were eventually disproven and thus are not part of the modern model.
His work proved JJ Thompsons 'plum pudding' model of the atom, where he thought that the atom was a cloud of positive charge with the negative charges dotted around like 'raisins'. He shot alpha particles at gold foil and measure the deflection, some went straight back so this went against the model as for this to happen, there had to be a dense positive charge, namely at the center. His contribution was the nucleus, his failures were that the size was only determined roughly over a lot of averaging, this is where the Geiger-marshden data comes in.
