THe other half of a buffer system containing sodium nitrate is ...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sodium nitrate is comletley neutral due to it being the conjugate base of a strong acid. It would not work as a buffer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what's the strong acid?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

if the salt were sodium nitrite, which is a weak acid salt, nitrous acid would be the conjugate of the buffer

I agree with JFraser. Check if you read the problem correctly or put it on here correctly.
