have a question help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 2x }{ x^{2}-16 }+\frac{ 2 }{ x-4 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know the first thing is to factor the denominator of first so would be \[\frac{ 2x }{ \left( x-4 \right)\left( x+4 \right) } + \frac{ 2\left( x+4 \right) }{ \left( x-4 \right)\left( x+4 \right)}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer the book gives is \[\frac{ x^{2}+6x }{ \left( x-4 \right)\left( x+4 \right) }\]

OpenStudy (phi):

looks like a typo in the question or the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the top of this is wrongi it should be 4x+8. then write it as 4(x+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i have that as i did when i wrote it on my paper

OpenStudy (phi):

the top is not wrong, it is not simplified. There is a difference. However, simplified or not, it is correct, and the answer given in the text is incorrect.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if i did the problem right what would the correct answer be? lol

OpenStudy (phi):

top is 4(x+2) bottom is x^2 - 16 (or leave it factored)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok cool thats what i have :)
