Is this right? :) attachment below my answer: 5/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

how did you get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I broke it down to the smallest way ossible

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5x - 3/ 3 (x-1)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what do you get when you just simplify 1/(x-3) + 4/x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me write this down to see

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

alright

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got (5 x-12)/(3 x-12)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(5 x-12)/(3 x-12)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that right @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

1/(x-3) + 4/x x/x(x-3) + 4(x-3)/x(x-3) (x + 4(x-3))/(x(x-3)) (x + 4x - 12)/(x(x-3)) (5x - 12)/(x(x-3)) that's what you should get when you simplify 1/(x-3) + 4/x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it simplified though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

X+4(x-3)/4(x-3)-4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just put mine into calculator....

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

now what do you get when you simplify 4/x - 1/(x-3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 1

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

let's find out 4/x - 1/(x-3) 4(x-3)/x(x-3) - x/x(x-3) (4x-12 - x)/(x(x-3)) (3x - 12)/(x(x-3)) So 4/x - 1/(x-3) simplifies to (3x - 12)/(x(x-3))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are actually just multiple forms of the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

at least 4 differnt answers that are all correct

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so 1/(x-3) + 4/x ------------------ 4/x - 1/(x-3) turns into (5x - 12)/(x(x-3)) ----------------- (3x - 12)/(x(x-3)) Notice how the (x(x-3)) are common in both the numerator and denominator, they would cancel to give you 5x-12 -------- 3x - 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that was my answer before and you guys said it was wrong!!!!!!!! wtf:(

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

i didn't say it was wrong

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I didn't say anything about it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've had that written down on my paper completely confident. no wonder this problem is confusing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for example there is:(12-5 x)/(12-3 x) : 8/(3 (x-4))+5/3 : (5 x-12)/(3 (x-4)) : 4/((4/x-1/(x-3)) x)+1/((4/x-1/(x-3)) (x-3)) : (5 x-12)/(3 x-12)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all are the forms of your equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks guys... much appreciated! xo
