In my school im suppose to Explore and report on a specific kingdom of “microorganisms.” what would be some examples of a specific kingdom of “microorganism?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then why did you respond?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i still need help...

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

Some examples are bacteria, fungi, archaea, and protists, and plankton.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THANK YOU!!!!!

OpenStudy (opcode):

Okay. For microorganism there are five kingdoms: 1) Viruses 2) Bacteria 3) Protozoans 4) Algae 5) Fungi I recommend choosing Fungi. It deals with decomposers and stuff.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait wha?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Opcode and @Ashleyisakitty you both have completely diff answers which is right?

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

We both have proper examples of what you're looking for.

OpenStudy (opcode):

No. There exactly the same... There just said differently... There are alternative names for kingdoms. In Malaysia I was taught those were the Kingdoms. @Ashleyisakitty are part of the Kingdoms. So technically we are all correct ^_^.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok ill use fungi

OpenStudy (opcode):

Fungi: Molds/Mushrooms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok what domain is fungi in?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Eukarya?

OpenStudy (opcode):

Yes they are eukaryotic organisms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok and theere kingdom?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Opcode I think your list is good. Only that viruses aren't microorganisms. They're not alive.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*what is fungi's kingdom?

OpenStudy (opcode):

Hmm. I was taught that they are microorganisms :O What exactly classifies a microorganism I don't know... But @EmmaH Look at this branch: http://images.tutorvista.com/content/modern-classification/five-kingdom-classification.jpeg See what it lists under Fungi? (Fungi itself is a kingdom) Mold/Mushrooms are the sub-kingdoms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm thanks:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Opcode Well they ARE "micro," meaning they're very small. But they're not organisms, because they don't satisfy the criteria for living things. For example, we know that all living things are made of cells. At LEAST one cell. Viruses aren't made of cells at all. They're just nucleic acid, wrapped up in protein.

OpenStudy (opcode):

Ah, okay. So there are only four kingdoms? Or are there five? And am I missing one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is fungi's domain and its species?

OpenStudy (opcode):

Eukaryote.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its domain is eukaryote? and its species is eukaryote?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont think that makes sense...

OpenStudy (opcode):

By species I think you mean what are types fungi? Which is mold and mushrooms...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.In your poster or PowerPoint presentation, you will need to detail the classification of the group of creatures you are detailing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Domain, kingdom, genus, species listed with appropriate italicization and capitalization.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what it wants me to do^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well in biology, there are 5 kingdoms: 1. Monera 2. Protista 3. Fungi 4. Plantae 5. Animalia

OpenStudy (opcode):

Fungi are not animals or plants... They are there own kingdom. But there domain are Eukaryote. As for species there are a whole lot... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Lists_of_fungal_species For example: Fungi: Species: Psilocybin mushrooms Genus: Psilocybe

OpenStudy (lacypennelll):

Lol I am doing the same thing and I am only in 6th...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha nice:) im doing bio right now and im in 9th i learned th but now im learnig it more in depth

OpenStudy (lacypennelll):

Lol I just finished my test :D

OpenStudy (lacypennelll):

I am in the advanced track so thats why I have it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh cool!:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Opcode Yes I agree, Fungi belong to their own kingdom. I hope I wasn't vague; I didn't mean to imply that fungi are plants or animals. Plants and Animals each belong to their own kingdoms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no you werent vague thanks for the help!

OpenStudy (opcode):

No it was clear, I got the point :3 Thanks my good man :-)
