A car leaves Treynor at 3:30 traveling to Lincoln (70 miles) and travels at an average speed of 65 mph. A truck leaves Omaha to travel to Lincoln (50 miles) at 4:00 and travels at an average speed of 75 mph. When and where will the truck catch the car?

OpenStudy (helpsos):

ok for simplicity sake rename the cars, car A and Car B. In this kind of question you first have to figure out the head start the first car has. You know car B left 30 minutes after car A.

I didnt learn how to do this problem in miles but I can tell you the rest of the steps. Step a) find the head start! Step b) find the extra speed. which is just Car a speed- car b speed Step c) use the formula: t= d/s where t is time, d is distance, and s is speed. The answer you get in step a should go in the d. The answer you get in step b should go in s. And when you divide those two you should get how much time it takes for Car b to catch up :) Sorry I couldn't actually solve it

OpenStudy (helpsos):

I just don't want to give you the wrong answer

OpenStudy (helpsos):

*Step B is Car b speed - car a speed .....sorry for the mistake :(

It's okay, thank you for the help! :)
