Which of the following inequalities matches the graph? The correct inequality is not listed. 5x + y >= 1 5x + y <= 1 5x - y >= 1
The way I do this is to first ignore the inequality and focus on the line dividing the regions. See if the line is described by the equation given if you change the inequality to an equals sign. So I eliminate some wrong answers. Then I test a point i pick a test point in the region and see which of the remaining inequalities satisfies it
is it 5x-y>=0?
i think its c
yes definitely c
how can you get it?
im so confused! i just need an answer
@King.Liang be patient, you need the logic to get the answer for your own future question. let everybody discuss and follow that
well okay then
subtract 1 from both sides and then add y to both sides and you get \[5x-1 \ge y\]
@MATTW20 subtract and add to which equation? you don't have any equation to manipulate except the graph, from the graph you have the equation for the line is y =5x only
no slope formula is mx+b where b is the y intercept in this case b is -1 as you can see on the graph
it's a little hard to tell because the graph goes up by two instead of one
no, you have 2 points (2,10) and (-2,-10) so the slope is 5, I got it is y<=5x
but whats the answer! ive been on the same question for 30 minutes
so 5x-y>=0
the answer is c
@ King-Liang just one more minute
those aren't the points that is just where the graph ends technically the equation goes on until infinity
I don't think so, read the instruction, the correct answer is not given, you have to find it out based on the graph
so this is your starting equation for c \[5x-y \ge 1\]
those are king liang's words aren't they?
I don't start at this, the scale from the graph definitely has meaning. I base on it to get the answer because the instruction said that the correct inequality is not listed.
if you subtract 1 from both sides you get \[5x-y-1\ge 0\]
then if you add y to both sides you get \[5x-1\ge y\]
ok. let the asker makes decision, if the instruction comes from him, you are right, if the it comes from the original problem, i 'm right
but you don't account for the one so it doesn't make sense it doesn't just disappear
you have 3 equations , what makes you think you pick any of them to get answer?
and they give you the graph just for fun?
Is this a troll?
No, just discuss about math. I have my own logic to get the answer, defute me, we try to help the asker only and the asker need the right answer.
@King.Liang if you have to choose one of the answer you pick c as Mattw20 say. if you dont' have to choose and have to give out the right one by your self, pick mine 5x-y>=0.done
fine whatever
thats not in the options
ok. pick mine
@MATTW20 fair enough, friend?
idk Dude just lemme finish my Calc. homework
me too, I have a bunch of homework, from my cal, linear algebra and discrete. come here for relaxing and getting the feeling being helpful
