How do I calculate this on a scientific calculator: (9.31 x 10^-31) (6.0 x 10^7)^2/ 2(1.6 x 10^-19) When I calculate the number in the calculator, it always say "error"
You must be entering it wrong or something, there's nothing particularly outlandish about that calculation...
what kind of calculator do you have??? I would type it like this ((9.31 x 10^-31) x (6.0 x 10^7)^2)/ (2 x (1.6 x 10^-19))
Probably safest is to do (6.0x10^7)^2 first so you can use the x^2 button without worry that it is trying to square the entire numerator, then multiply by 9.31x10^-31, and divide by (2x1.6x10^-19) It would be helpful to know what kind of calculator you have as some calculators will respect the order of operator precedence and some will not. Old geezers like myself have ingrained habits of ordering the way we enter the problem because the calculator (or before that, slide rule) just did everything as you entered it. The exact means of entering exponents and so on varies from brand to brand as well. A decent web-based scientific calculator can be found at http://web2.0calc.com
