The degree of a polynomial is the heighest power of x

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

A monomial is a single number or a number multiplied by any number of variables. A sum of monomials is a polynomial. A two-term polynomial has the name binomial. A three-term polynomial has the name trinomial. The degree of a monomial is the sum of all the exponents of the variables of that monomial. The degree of a ploynomial is the same as the degree of the monomial with highest degree.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Look at each term, which is a monomial. Term Degree 5x 1 3x^4 4 -7x^3 3 10 0 The degree of the polynomial is the degree of the highest term. The highest term is degree 4, so the polynomial is degree 4.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The 4th answer has binomial in it. A binomial has only 2 terms. This polynomial has 4 terms.
