Evaluate: −3 − (−2) −5 −1 1 −6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3 - (-2) changes to -3 + 2 so the answer would be....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no. -3 +2 is not 6. think of it as 3-2. but make the answer negative. that's probably not the best way to explain it, but that will give you the right answer. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umm lets see

OpenStudy (anonymous):

negative 5! lol I honestly knew that but I thought you asked 3times 2lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's not negative five either...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Two is positive.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no... 3-2 is not 5. :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you're reading it wrong, dear. 3-2=1, right? I'm sure you know you're probably just over thinking it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1.. I keep seeing different signs lol.. first I see time, then adding... now I see subtracting.. so its -1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha, no worries! but, yes. :) that is the answer. do you understand why? I can try to help explain it if you need.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A negative plus a positive will remain negative unless the positive number is equal or greater. If equal, the answer will be 0. (Ex: -8 + 8 = 0) Same goes with vice versa. I'm tired. Did you know that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand... my old teacher once taught it to me like this... negative is bad. and positive is good.. so if you do something bad and get something good in return then that bad.. you get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's getting into political and social philosophy, there. Not really relevant to math.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope. but if YOU get it, then that's all that matters! :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol, trash man.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dude it makes sense if you think about

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, as long as you get it, I'm happy. :P message me or somethin if you need anymore help, okay? good luck! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright!(: thanks
