why was the battle of bunker hill considered a patriot victory?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

technically and realistically it wasnt a victory for the Patriots. The Battle of Bunker Hill was won by the British although it was a bittersweet victory as there were about 2000 casualties. It is considered one of the bloodiest battles of the American ReVolution. Israel Putnam, leader of the rebel troops, shouted his famous battle cry "Don't shoot 'til you see the whites of their eyes!" Although the patriot forces did lose the hill, they lost only 441 men compared to the British losses of 1,054. men under colonol william prescott went to fortify bunker hill, instead they fortified *breed's hill*. The next day, the british attacked. they were driven away twice with great losses, but in the end the colonists surrendered because they ran out of gunpowder. it was considered more of a **moral** victory considering that they lost. MOral victory bcuz: the british lost 1,054 men, more then twice the amount of the Patriots. 1/8 of all the british killed in the revolution were killed that day..
