Write an equation of the line containing the specified point and perpendicular to the indicated line. (4,-2) x=1....How would I solve fo r this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Y-Y1=M(X-X1)

Directrix (directrix):

If I am reading properly, we seek the equation of a line through the point (4,-2) such that the line is perpendicular to the given line x = 1.

Directrix (directrix):

The product of the slopes of perpendicular lines is -1 provided neither of the two perpendicular lines is vertical. x = 1 is a vertical line and has no slope. A vertical line is perpendicular to a horizontal line which has slope 0.
