I need help with this equation....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure, type it out :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{x+2} - 7 = \sqrt{x+9}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright. One second.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay thanks.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are going to have to square both sides twice unfortunately

OpenStudy (anonymous):

agh okay :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the first time you get \[x+2-14\sqrt{x+2}+49=x+9\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which then becomes\[ -14\sqrt{x+2}=-42\] so \[\sqrt{x+2}=3\] and now it should work out okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay! Thank you so much! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

square again get \[x+2=9\iff x=7\]and don't forget to check your answer
