Quadratic Equation help: if x = -b ± √b^2 - 4ac /2 would the -6 in the equation 4x^2 - 6x + 1 = 0 be -6 or would it be 6 for -b? a = 4, b = -6, c = 1

So I'm using the wrong formula?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Yes. Just like you have it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, but I don't understand if my eqaution is supossed to be either x = -6 ± √-6^2 - 4(4)(6) /2 or x = 6 ± √-6^2 - 4(4)(6) /2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

over 2a, i mean.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

\[x=\frac{6\pm \sqrt{36-4(4)(1)}}{8}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay, thank you!
