Two substances have different heat of fusion values. If given the same number of moles of each substance, and assuming that the same amount of heat is applied to both substances, the substance with a lower heat of fusion value will convert from a solid to a liquid more quickly? True or false?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

true!!!

Hello again :) There is a very tricky question, and I would appreciate your opinion. The wording throws me a bit off. "An endothermic reaction could be non-spontaneous if the change in enthalpy is less positive than the product of -TdeltaS is negative." ---True or false? I cannot make sense of this one. What do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wouldn't those conditions mean that the reaction would be spontaneous?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you still there?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

sory iam gettting confused let me try it for some time !!!

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

Delta g=delta H-T Delta S now u have endothermic mean delta H is positive but as u said less positive and -T DeltaS is negative then Delta G will be negative right then the reaction should be spontaneous

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

-T Delta S is negative or only Delta S is negative

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

-T Delta S is negative or only Delta S is negative in ur question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The product of -TdeltaS

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

then i am right did u understood it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The statement would be false, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am so confused!

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

yaaa its false
