Where within the cell does the process of respiration take place?

pooja195 (pooja195):

Respiration involves three main processes: 1) Glycolysis - this takes place in the cytoplasm of cells. 2) The Krebs Cycle - this takes place in the matrix of the mitochondria. 3) The Electron Transfer Chain - this takes place along the inner membrane of the mitochondria. Therefore: Respiration takes place both inside and outside the mitochondria as ALL three processes outlined constitute respiration.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the mitochondria glycolysis is essentially breaking down of glucose and is not considred part and essential part of respiration

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mitochondrial inner membrane space is the place where the four iron sulphur complexes reside and electron transport takes place there and finally the electrons get accepted by oxygen and water is formed....this is where u respire....during the process of tca cycle u liberate two molecules of carbon dioxide for every molecule of glucose being broken down
