A line from the Brackett series of hydrogen has a wavelength of 1945nm (or 1.0979x10^7m). From which state did the electron originate.

I have to use Rydberg Equation but am not sure how to use it. I had to miss that lecture since my son was sick that day :(

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

LOL!!! 1/ lambda = R [ 1/m2 - 1/n2] put in this value of lambda and R =1.0979x10^7m find them=4 for bracket series find the n

Take it easy. Brackett series means that the initial orbit that electron was there is 4. what happens when an electron is in orbit 4? it falls to orbit number 1 in order to be stable. so put the square of these numbers in the equation.
